Name: Jacques LeMont
Alias:
Tough
AKAs: Jac
Physical Description
Hair:
Black, long and often in a loose, flowing pony-tail, 'stylish' goatee
Eyes:
Dark brown
Ethnicity:
French Occitan (southern France)
Age:
40
Build: Lean athletic build, 5' 11''
Uniform:
Jac has long since stopped acting as a full member of any X-Team, though he still resides on campus as a teacher of Modern Foreign Languages (French, Spanish and Italian, as well as Catalan and traditional Occitan for those interested). As such, he has no official uniform unless absolutely necessary. In which case, he wears pants and t-shirt of the usual X-Men style and motif.
Personal Style:
Jac likes style, though not always the most stylish of styles. He can often wear quite garish prints on silk or velvet shirts, leather pants, fancy shoes... very nearly a typical euro-trash stereotype, but he always manages to pull it off with a calm, cool confidence.
Psychological Description
Personality:
Jac is a cool, calm and confident character; a typical laid-back Frenchman with an appreciation for the beautiful, simple pleasures in life. He comes across wistful and careless often, but is by no means simply reckless or feckless. He cares deeply for those that are important to him, and will always lend a friendly ear or arm when needed. He is a hopeless romantic, though respectful and chivalrous to a fault.
Relationships:
Jac maintains good relationships with his former peers and colleagues, as well as with his current peers and colleagues. He's an amicable, affable sort with a chivalrous romantic streak as wide as the Balearic. He is a friendly, supportive member of the faculty who always has time for his students.
Powers & Abilities:
Jac's core ability is, essentially, invincibility. He cannot be physically harmed through conventional traumatic means; for example, cuts and stabs do not break the skin & blunt force does not bruise or break skin, organ or bone. If he ingests poison or some otherwise harmful substance, he simply doesn't react to it. It passes through his system in whatever expected way without taking effect. Even if suffocated to unconsciousness, he takes no lasting organ or brain injury, and just needs time to recover; similarly if he is made to starve or dehydrate he will suffer the usual symptoms of their absence, but when this situation is remedied he simply needs time to recover.
Weaknesses: Jac can be suffocated, starved and dehydrated, and suffers the symptoms of not receiving these substances he otherwise should, including unconsciousness. Jac has no other extra-human abilities to speak of, and though he can't take harm as he otherwise should, he can be tossed, hurled etc. like any other human.
Skills:
Jac is multi-lingual thanks to his Occitan heritage, speaking primarily French, but also Spanish, Italian, Catalan and traditional Occitan. Despite no other super-human abilities, Jac did and does take his training seriously to remain fit and capable in a fight. He is a gifted gymnast and acrobat, having been a circus performer in his youth.
Equipment:
Jac employs no particular equipment other than the usual X-Team items such as communicator etc.
Background: Jacques LeMont is originally from the region of Southern France known as the Occitan, where he lived a happy and healthy life. Very healthy, in fact. He was never ill, never suffered serious injury from any childhood accident or otherwise. Eventually, it became quite apparent what he was, and what his gift was. In his early teens, he used his gifts to entertain his friends, and through payments to attend and entertain at house parties, or through bets with unsuspecting strangers, he came to make quite a decent living from it.
Eventually, he was convinced to take his talents into the professional arena. He joined a travelling circus, wanting to see the world, and having no real fear of death or injury by striking out alone with little more to his name than the meager savings he had amassed. His success only grew and grew. With the circus, spurred on by his employer and colleagues, he underwent even more tremendous feats of survival. He had trained as an acrobat and gymnast as a youth, and continued to do so as a circus entertainer, training rigorously to perform ever more death-defying stunts... some of which he would purposefully "fail" at.
It was during an accidental fire that ravaged the big-top one evening at a show in New York that Jac first used his abilities to save another human life. He was only 16, but when he realised a portion of the audience was still trapped inside, he didn't hesitate for a moment to charge back into the burning tent. Debris had collapsed amongst the bleachers lining the outer ring of the tent. It was fragile, but vividly alight with fire, preventing the poor people from being able to get close enough to push their way through.
Jac threw himself at the debris, collapsing it under his body and pushing it aside. He came away black with soot, and coughing for the smoke that had entered his lungs, but otherwise entirely unharmed, the audience ahead of him. He coughed and sputtered for some time, but the more oxygen he was able to take in, he was shortly fine, the smoke simply processed out of his body and coughed up as a seemingly innocent black splodge.
Unfortunately, the circus was ruined. It had already been suffering in these modern times, and the fire was sadly the final nail in its coffin. Many of his colleagues returned home to their native countries, but Jac? Jac was finding New York quite agreeable. His reputation as a hero seemed to have spread through the adjacent neighborhoods, and he found welcoming, smiling faces nearly everywhere he went. This only lasted so long, however, a matter of weeks until the darker side of the public opinion of mutants reared its head.
He soon found himself near penniless without a friend, scraping together a living as a bus boy in a French restaurant. Not one of the good ones. It was Xavier that found him, following rumours, and offered him sanctuary at the Institute. Jac was never officially a student on roster, but rather a welcome guest in an otherwise unoccupied room. But he earned his keep, in the kitchen for the most part, and eventually as a member of one of the X-Teams after he took on some training sessions with the students his age. He became fast friends with the likes of Rocky, Shrieker and Night-Child.
Over time, he slowly retired from active X-Team duty (though he is still in active reserve) and after having completed his GED in his 20s, and further qualifications as a teacher, now teaches MFL at the Institute, where he also still lives.
