Even as the boss, Rocky still wears the uniform as he likes to keep his feet on the ground with the troops.
Personal Style: Rocky favours jeans and cargo pants, t-shirts and tank-tops, and has his favourite black leather jacket and brown leather boots.
Psychological Description
Personality: Rocky Treborn is the friendliest giant of a man you'd ever meet. He, of course, absolutely means business when he needs to, not afraid to employ his size and strength as a chief of security, but isn't particularly quick to anger or violence. He sees it as a necessary tool, on occasion, but is more prone to defensive applications of his abilities. He's a family man, with a slightly quirky outlook on life and sense of humour, very much in love with his wife and adoring of his two children.
Relationships:
Wife, Andrea, mother to his two children; Daniel (18, current student at Xavier's Institute) and Elspeth (16, non-mutant, high school in Texas). He has an older brother, Beau (Beaufort); they don't get on exceedingly well, Beau is also a mutant but turned to a life of crime in his youth. He's currently trying to seek redemption, but with varying success. Rocky maintains friendships with former XI peers: Shrieker I, Night-Child & Tough. Rocky also has many personal and professional friendships through his security firm in Texas.
Powers & Abilities:
Rocky Treborn has the ability to transform his whole body into incredibly dense and tough stone. In his case, it's all or nothing. When he does so, physical tests and scans read him as nothing more than a statue. He puts out no heat, pulse, doesn't need to breath, his eyes even appear as solid stone so cannot be detected by reflection of light they take in/put out (his senses change in nature slightly, noticeable to him as things simply taking on a slightly grey hue and being ever so slightly muffled in sound, but he's very used to this. The exact nature of this is unknown, as it cannot be physically investigated. Rocky is already impressively strong and tough due to his build and training, but in statue form he is nigh unbreakable and can easily lift a heavy car with little to no effort. He has been known to survive impact with a train; though he is thrown by it, he comes away with only a few scrapes and scuffs in his stonework. In statue form, Rocky gains 3 inches in height and nearly a tonne in weight.
Weaknesses: In statue form, Rocky does move slightly slower. He can still move and run as expected, but even with his exaggerated strength, it's as if it takes a little extra effort to get the ball rolling, so a run may start off slow before he gets to pace, which would have a lower top speed than in his human form, and throwing a blow might be more noticeable for the extended wind-up or slower start before momentum accumulates. Also, he weighs around/just over a tonne in statue form. Limitations there are fairly obvious. Also, his family are quite a distinct weakness for him, a target for enemies he must always be wary of.
Skills:
Rocky has no particular martial arts training, it not being a skill that suited his ability, but he has undergone a good degree of grappling and restraining combat styles, which he applies judiciously and effectively with his well-trained and maintained strength even in human form.
Equipment:
As a professional security chief, Rocky carries mace, zip ties and a few other security must haves. His firm does not use or condone guns, however, a risk given he's set up shop in Texas, but the fact a number of his staff pack their own fire power in other ways seems to have made the difference.
Background: Roquefort Treborn was born to Genevieve and Bartolomé in New Orleans. His mother, Genevieve, was from a Cajun family that had moved into the city of New Orleans in the early 1900s, and subsequently lost some connection to their heritage over time. Bartolomé, however, was pure Cajun from south-west of the city, and met Genevieve while in town for supplies. They struck up a fervent, passionate tryst that neither family approved of for ridiculous, ultimately classist reasons.
Bartolomé, however, was madly in love with his Genevieve, and moved to the city after proposing to her only 4 months after they'd met. She said yes. They quickly became pregnant. They hadn't exactly intended to start a tradition of naming their kids after cheeses... they just liked the sound of Beaufort for their first child, and similarly Roquefort for their second, without really thinking too hard about what they were inadvertently doing.
But Bartolomé needed a job. They got by initially, Genevieve still working in the store they'd met in, and Bartolomé picking up odd-jobs as a handy-man and errand boy. But it became clear this was not enough to support their family. And so, in 1980, Bartolomé joined the military. He died in 1983, during Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada, one of a number of unnecessary American casualties. Genevieve and her two sons received a nominal payment from the military, but it was the support of her family that saw them through the worst times.
Genevieve was adamant she would maintain as much independence as possible, however, and after their initial support in the worst time immediately after her fiance's death (they'd never got around to actually marrying), Genevieve asked her parents to respect their wishes. But it was difficult. There were only so many jobs she was qualified for, and fewer still that would support her and her two sons and allow her to be able to care for them around school hours.
Beau and Rocky both developed their powers in secret. Beau had discovered first that he could transform into an iron-like state, similar to the abilities Rocky would eventually develop, but he took the form of pure iron instead. He was lighter, quicker, but also tougher. He appeared to be slightly hollow, however, so even though the iron couldn't be broken, it would dent with enough force, which was extremely painful and often prevented him from resuming human form without significant effort and suffering, and once in human form he would have developed a corresponding injury.
Beau had kept this secret from Rocky also, until Rocky's first signs of having an ability started to show also, and Beau "brought him into the fold" as it were. Beau had begun using his abilities for personal gain, and fallen in with a rough crowd that took advantage of them. He knew they were, but didn't mind, he was too after all, and at least it meant they needed him, and he could exert a degree of power with that knowledge. Soon, it was more that they came to rely on him, need him. Beau tried to get his little brother to follow in his footsteps, promising they'd be able to help and support their mother if they worked together; could just take what they needed, what they wanted, and never be poor again. Rocky, god bless him, knew it was wrong, and knew their mother would never approve. He confessed his abilities to his mother, but did not reveal his brother; he hoped Beau would do it himself. But he didn't.
Rocky and his mother agreed that he should go to Xavier's Institute; he had a wonderful opportunity to get a good education without it costing them too much, if anything. He'd have a better life up in New York, and be able to come back a new man, and in the meantime Genevieve and Beau would be able to get by that little bit easier, have an opportunity to save up some of the spare, or it might even give Genevieve a chance to go to school and get a better job.
Rocky would speak to his mother almost every day, but rarely heard directly from Beau. Genevieve would report that he was often out, and when he wasn't he was a typical sullen, withdrawn and disconnected teenager just trying to find his way in difficult times. Rocky worried there was more to it, but still couldn't bring himself to reveal his brother's secrets.
When Rocky turned 19, officially graduating from Xavier's Institute, he returned home. His mother had been able to go back to school, and now had a much better paying job working support and admin (essentially a secretary with extra responsibilities) for a textiles manufacturing firm. But when her youngest son arrived, she confessed that she'd not wanted to previously tell him just how distant his older brother had become. She barely ever saw him anymore, though he still tokenistically lived with her, and the few times she did he always seemed to either be in a rush, or in trouble. He'd had more than a few run-ins with the law.
Rocky confronted his brother, older by 2 years, remembering where his 'crew' used to hang out, and where they still did. Beau had very much turned to the dark side, and like Rocky, his powers and own abilities had grown for practice, maturity and use. Their confrontation became violent, Rocky mostly defending himself against a very angry Beau. Rocky won in the end, denting Beau's chest with a mighty blow in an unintentionally devastating reactionary blow to the heated exchange of words they were also having, concerning their mother, Rocky abandoning them, etc.
Rocky turned human, stopping the fight as he apologised profusely. Beau couldn't, and further incensed, swatted Rocky away and ran.
After discussing events with Genevieve, it turned out she'd put two and two together about Beau's abilities and lifestyle a while ago, but try as she might, she couldn't do anything with him not remotely engaging with her. And she'd refused to get the authorities involved to take her eldest away. Though she accepted that perhaps she should have.
Rocky had made a life for himself in New York, with friends, and a girl he was madly in love with. He even had a job lined up with a private security firm (Andrea already worked for them as an intern, as it was her father's company). He had his mother's blessing to return there, she would be fine. She had a new fella of her own, a colleague from the firm, so she wasn't going to be alone, especially if they kept contact like they always had anyway.
Rocky and Andrea wed 2 years later. They decided they wanted to start a family, and when Andrea's father announced he was going to retire from the security firm and move back to Texas, Rocky took his advice about starting his own firm. But together, Rocky and Andrea decided to move back down to Texas with her parents, for the extra support with a young and growing family, while Rocky did so there. Daniel was born a couple years later, and Elspeth a couple years after that.
There were many times over the years, in New York and Houston, that Rocky was called to arms as a super-hero with friends and allies from his time at Xavier's Institute, but he is not a professional super-hero. First and foremost, he is a family man and security chief and consultant.
Danny is now attending XI, Elspeth, who is not a mutant, is in High School close to home in Houston, and Rocky's security firm is doing very well despite having an anti-gun stance in a state like Texas. The fact his firm happily employs and deploys mutants with primarily defensive abilities (similar to his, or perhaps defensive telekinetics, maybe the odd empath for early-warning, etc.) probably helps a bit.
