Name: Samael Apep-Mara
Alias: Sam
AKAs: Many and varied over the years. Samael Apep-Mara technically isn't his 'real' name, but is officially now he's earthbound.
Physical Description
Sam appears as a very large, morbidly muscular man with borderline inhuman proportions, but just within the realms of humanoid possibility at 6' 8'' and 152kg. When he chose to be earthbound, he took on a classic satan-esque aesthetic of red skin, fangs, demonic amber eyes, horns, black hair slicked back in to a pony-tail, a pointed tail, sharp black nails, forked (but human) tongue. No hooves or rams legs, all is distinctly humanoid, but as said, large and muscular.
Sam dresses very formally at all time; suits, shirts, ties, shoes etc. When he risks being out in public (usually only late, in the dark, or in very heavy weather where people aren't paying that much attention etc., situations like that, he will wear a long raincoat and a brimmed hat to obscure enough of himself to not be too easily noticed. The distracting charms on these items also help to keep him from being stared at and scaring the public. On very rare occasions, he will have these charms strengthened to a glamour, if he absolutely must meet someone who should not be made aware of him in public or otherwise.
Psychological Description
Personality: Sam, despite his appearance, is a very intelligent, sensible, congenial and courteous individual. He does have a history of making bargains that are not always kind, straight forward or fairly struck, but has since had a change of heart and has a certain affection for those of the mortal realm after so long dealing with them, seeing them at their best and worst. To say he is kind and gentle might be a stretch, but certainly has it in him. He is very practical and pragmatic,
but not a robot. He is a particular drive to protect humans, having gained this affection for them, and seeing great potential in them if they can just be protected and guided in the right direction.
Relationships: Sam has kept many relationships over the centuries, appearing as several different kinds of devil or demon that would make deals for peoples' souls. He knew Buddha, before he found enlightenment. He's known kings, queens, empresses and pharaohs. He's known musicians, bell-boys, scientists, actors... you name it, he can probably give you an example. He is not the only of his kind, however. His modus opperandi was to make deals, exchanges; a myth, legend or story you heard of the like throughout history, it was probably him. But he has brothers and sisters that use other tactics, often even less fair, than his. Most recently, however, Sam has abandoned his kind, abandoned his native state of existence even, to join the mortal realm. He has worked with the British government since the mid-1800s, when he volunteered himself for imprisonment and study, while also trading with them knowledge that would save them from supernatural threats, and prepare them for other threats.
Powers/Abilities: Earthbound, Sam retains the ability of all-sight, being able to see energy and existence on multiple levels and in its many facets. He possesses super strength and durability, his tail is prehensile and also stronger than one might expect. His nails are extremely tough and sharp, and can be utilized as a very effective cutting implement. He has shown the potential to be able to manifest and employ a form of chaotic energy native to his home realm, a very basic and rudimentary example of the powers he once possessed before choosing to become earthbound. Sam is also ageless, existing in a constant unchanging state.
Weaknesses: Sam, though very strong, durable and ageless, is not immortal. He will continue to live forever, but he can be harmed and killed by someone or something strong enough. He has no accelerated healing ability. His appearance and size also have their own obvious drawbacks.
Skills: Sam is extremely intelligent, experienced and educated in a great variety of human history, knowledge and habits. He is also extremely knowledgeable about both supernatural fields and some sciences that human-kind have yet to master, or even discover in some cases. He is a very convincing speaker, adept at negotiation and gentle coercion when necessary, as he is very observant and adept at reading and manipulating people.
Equipment: Sam has no specific equipment apart from his mobile phone and laptop, government issue with added supernatural/magical charms to suit his position and purposes, and the hat and raincoat with distraction or glamour charms.
Background: Sam's kind are from a parallel reality to ours. Their kind evolved to a point where their bodies could feed off of and exist as the potential energy of existence, conscience and consciousness. Unfortunately, this existence was not in a stable balance. They consumed more than they produced, and their reality began to crumble. So a number of them struck out, using the higher levels of awareness and power their existence gave them to explore other realities living beside, above, beneath, within and around their own to seek out more of these energies, and somehow siphon back into their own to sustain it and them. In many realities, this took very basic forms of simple energy transfer from atomic, chemical or metaphysical sources. But in some, a far more potent and powerful energy source was found. What, essentially, you would call 'souls'. The combined essence of consciousness, conscience, awareness, intent, life, potential... it's hard to define. Sam was one of several that found our Earth, and ingrained themselves throughout our timeline to take the souls of mortals to feed their realm. Of course, it's not exactly like it's written in myths and legends, they merely siphon these curious energies, but can only do so if they are given, willingly or not. They are not really exchanging their souls as if they are a specific item to be bartered, it is more that their willingness to give away this essence, their life, the level of intent in their conscious and aware decision creates a form of potential energy that they give away and can't claim back. Like a piece of themselves, that though it does affect them, most would never truly realise exactly how, and just assume its because they no longer have a soul. Thus, the myths and legends as they are now.
Their kind were not constrained by the passage of time as the mortals or our realm experience it, able to move freely throughout our history, experience all times as though they occurred concurrently. Sam traveled through our earthly history, taking on the varied personas of demons, deities and devils that would come to those who would trade their souls, or souls of others they 'possessed', for anything he could gift them. Which, with his power at that stage, was anything. He took sacrifices of daughters from ancient kings (though not murderous, he would simply take them away with him, as they might be of use in another deal he might make at another time), traded talent for the 'souls' of actors and musicians. All of it fed him, and his dying reality.
But They got greedy, Sam and his kind. The longer they existed in these other worlds, the more they forgot about their own. It still persisted, though mostly because so few of them remained behind, but Sam and his kind stopped sending so much of the energy they obtained back, and instead kept it for themselves. Simply to enjoy, as they enjoyed their new exploits, or to carve out new empires in other realms they annexed.
You couldn't define exactly when it happened, time not really passing or existing for him, but at some stage in his existence in our time-stream, Sam started to become more and more familiar with the humans of Earth that he'd spent so long feeding off of. He became invested... he began to care. The realization hit him like the birth of the universe; they'd abandoned their home and were slowly destroying all these others realities the same way they'd nearly destroyed their own. They were a cancer, an invading infection. But they weren't even the worst of it, there were so many other forces at play, on Earth in particular, that would seek to chew it up and spit it out an empty husk.
And he could no longer play any part in it. But he could not stand by and let it happen either, he felt the need to do something.
Choosing to become earthbound was something they were all aware they could do, if they so wished. But it involved abandoning what they were, and choosing a life on the mortal realm that would last forever, and that they would experience as such.
He had experienced the whole of time on our realm all at the same time, including our future. He had showed himself to so many people, past present and future, and even though he chose to manifest in our mortal existence in the mid-1800s, remembered it all. It was disorienting at first, all of these memories existing in this new physical mind, constrained to time as we experience it after an eternity of timeless omnipresence and omniscience, but the process forced the memories into an order that respected the passage of time as he was now forced to experience it. But he felt the memories that had yet to have occurred slowly beginning to fade away.
Upon attaining existence on our plain of existence, Sam immediately surrendered himself to the British government. He had to, there was too much he had to tell them before he forgot. He volunteered for study and research by the Queen's scientists and wizards (yes, of course Britain had wizards, protected by the official secrets act), but as time passed, despite first impressions made by his appearance and outlandish knowledge, he proved himself a valuable asset. Sine the late 1800s he secretly co-founded a number of organisations to protect Britain's interests against threats both natural and supernatural, and by extension the world.
Sam has since long forgotten many of the memories he had of his own appearances on our future, though many have been recorded with varying levels of clarity as they slowly dwindled. He tried to concentrate on the most immediate and important first. Many now only exist as tenuous, unclear prophecies of things that have yet to come, things that have already come to pass and have either been thwarted, or failed to be thwarted in some cases, and others have proved not to occur, possibly because they changes that have already been made have prevented them outright.
Sam is now a respected and valued member of the secret circles of British government dealing with magics and the supernatural.
