Name: Seamus McGiever
Alias: Irish
AKAs: Shay, Mr Green
Physical Description
Hair: Dark brown, cut short and usually suavely styled swept to one side with a neat right parting.
Eyes: Green
Ethnicity: White Irish (half leprechaun)
Age: 28
Build: 5'9'', average build
Uniform: Irish doesn't particularly wear anything that ca be considered a uniform
Personal Style: Irish's style depends on the event. A lot of the time, he dresses quite formally with suits, shirt, waist-coat, nice shoes, trilby or similar. His more casual normal-wear is fairly typical of a normal person; jeans, t-shirts, casual shirts, jumpers, cardigans, casual jackets, boots, trainers etc. He always has his shillelagh however, feigning he needs it as a walking stick but doesn't affect a particularly severe limp.
Psychological Description
Personality: Shay is quite chaotically neutral for the most part. He sees life as something to be lived, especially to excess. He will do so to suit himself in nearly all circumstances, but never to the active detriment of others unless he has a particular wont to do so. He does have a chip on his shoulder, due to his dual heritage between Earth and Tir na nOg; having to keep so many secrets in the one, and a constant victim of ridicule for his half-breed status in the other.
Relationships: Shay considers himself very close with his human mother, often dropping in on her. His leprechaun father still lives in the Earthen realm with his mother, the pair happily married, but their relationship is a bit more fractious. His father has never pressured him either way, but his support was also fairly taciturn, Shay growing up with the confusion and frustration of never really knowing what his father expected of him, wanted, would respect, etc. Shay owns an international chain of Irish pubs called Tir na nOg, and calls the one in Boston, Massachusetts home. But he travels a lot between all the locations and the points of interest (casinos, clubs, etc.) around them. He maintains happy and healthy relationships with all of his staff.
Powers & Abilities: As a half leprechaun, Shay has at least a few of the faerie-folk's abilities. He is able to manipulate 'luck' for both himself and others, altering the probability of favourable and unfavourable events and outcomes. Shay can also teleport via 'rainbow channels' that are breaches in reality through leprechaun magic. In a flash of prismic rainbow lights Shay can disappear and reappear near instantaneously wherever he likes, seen or unseen, known or unknown. Shay is also able to channel flashes of rainbow hued magical energy into forceful blasts. As part fairy, Shay's immune system is slightly hardier against normal human ailments (including poisons, minor injuries and fatigue) and though he seems to age normally, he has a slightly extended mortality and suffers the ageing process in a similarly extended time-frame. Many faerie-folk have the ability to veil, glamour or otherwise disguise themselves while in the mortal realm, and there are many more of them about than you might think, but in his unique position bridging the realms, and with particular training in certain roles he briefly fulfilled for some ruling faeries, Shay has a form of true-sight, that allows him to pierce such glamours, depending on how well they've been applied. He can either see right through them, simply have a sense that they're present, or if they're strong enough be completely oblivious still.
Weaknesses: As a half-human, Shay does not share in faerie-folk immortality despite his slightly longer life cycle. Also, where full leprechauns may have trinkets to help channel their magics (shillelaghs, hats, four leaf clovers, lucky charm jewelry of varying kinds etc.), Shay needs his shillelagh to channel and use his magic. Without it he can access it in as much as making sparks or a glow, as it sputters and starts in his grip, but it is essentially ineffectual. There have been, however, in moments of extreme stress and danger when his attempts to do so without his shillelagh have proven... 'successful', if catastrophic. The only ability he does retain without his shillelagh is the true-sight to potentially recognise and pierce through glamours and veils.
Skills: Shay is an accomplished combatant, having learned several disciplines both in the Earthen realm and Tir na nOg. In particular, Shay is very skilled in the discipline of
Bataireacht, a combat style specifically designed and employing his blackthorn shillelagh. Shay also has the gift of the gab, and is an accomplished liar, bluffer and con-man.
Equipment: Shay always keeps his shillelagh in close reach. It is a traditional walking stick made of gnarled and knotted blackthorn, with a particularly prominent knot at the top. He feigns that he needs it to walk, though he barely affects a limp when using it or not. This shillelagh is in fact an artifact of Tir na nOg, something every leprechaun has in one form or another, that helps them channel their magic. Shay, as only a half leprechaun, needs his to channel and control his magic.
Background: Seamus McGiever has always known of his heritage. As a young woman, his human mother had gotten herself lost deep in the woods and stumbled upon a hole in a tree as the darkening of the night brought the cold. She did not realise how close to Tir na nOg she had come, as the hole was in fact one of the ancient pathways that even the Faerie-folk didn't use all that often anymore. It was only because, as a young lad, Shay's leprechaun father was bored with teachings and planned to use the old pathway to go have some fun at some mortals' expense that he stumbled on the shivering poor dear. They courted in secret for several weeks, before he was forced to tell her the truth when others of the Faerie-folk came to the Earthen realm to address their relationship. These things simply weren't done, you see.
However, they pleaded their case, and luckily found favour amongst the ruling Faeries concerned. They wed a year later, and their son was born 6 months after that.
As a child, Shay split his time between the mortal realm and Tir na nOg, learning the ways of both. Time passes slightly differently in Tir na nOg, though not to an easily defined pattern. Between his extended life-cycle and faerie magic making a mockery of physical time if employed correctly by the most adept of faeries, this never posed much of a problem and they raised no suspicion amongst their neighbours and friends in County Mayo, Ireland.
However, as Shay reached his teenage years, it was he who became frustrated with the fashion of his life, never truly belonging to one realm or the other, keeping secrets and at a distance on Earth, and bullied for his impure heritage in the faerie realms. Though he rebelled frequently, he always excelled at his studies none the less. Many of the adepts teaching him praising him for natural talents despite his limitations, a form of prodigy in his own way. In truth, the ruling faeries of Tir na nOg saw him as a boon, a connection to a realm they had long since had to abandon and break ties with, with whom one day they hoped to one day re-establish a connection with. Said feeling were of course not shared by every class of faerie amongst all the faerie realms.
As a young man, Shay helped keep the balance between realms. There have always been breaches and the bleeding of faerie magic into the Earthen realm, but the ruling faeries do what they can to limit this. Due to their faith and belief in what they called his 'fate', they recruited and tasked him with watching the line when necessary. But he began to feel this only further isolated him from both worlds. More secrets to keep on Earth, and more faeries that grew to resent him. He did not last long in this role.
Instead, Shay struck out on his own. They could do nothing to stop him, not within the confines of their own laws at least, but he had essentially exiled himself from the realm of Tir na nOg. He began to use his talents for his own personal gain, and to quite significant gain at that. This caused tension in particular between he and his father, who though he had left Tir na nOg behind many years ago to be with his family on Earth, was still loyal to his roots. Shay didn't much mind, he still had his mother very much on side.
Shay gambled, gabbed and conned his way around the world, amassing quite the fortune that he then used to establish a chain of Irish pubs to use as bases while he travels the world. On occasion, he still has to deal with the faerie world when it seeps through, often-times only to seek him out (either in friendly or formidable fashion) and will do what he needs to do, or feels he must, as he is not evil just... selfishly motivated, let's say.
Despite his reputation in certain circles on Earth, and his humble chain of establishments, he doesn't have a particularly public profile through which he is too easily recognised, preferring to keep a low personal profile.
