Name: Alexi Mahroufi
Alias: Ion
AKAs: Alex
Physical Description
Hair: Close clipped black, except for a mohawk strip slightly off centre and bleached blond, running from front to back
Eyes: Green
Ethnicity: Moroccan American (both parents are Moroccan, but father was raised in America, mother moved over when they married)
Age: 18
Build: Alex is a typical jock-ish type, but doesn't take part in any specific sport. He's more of a gym-rat and can be found working out during a large proportion of his personal time, and as such has a robust and strong build; broad shoulders, thick arms and legs, generally ripped all-round. 5'9''
Uniform: As a member of a junior X-team, Ion wears boots, pants and t-shirt of the expected style and motif.
Personal Style: Alex favours trainers, jeans & vests, t-shirts or short sleeve shirts that fit to show off his stature.
Psychological Description
Personality: Alex mostly comes across as a cocky, rambunctious and rogueish troublemaker on the face of it, but ultimately has a heart of gold. He holds no specific grudges, he's just sees no issue in sometimes passing comment or behaving in a way that makes him come across as a bit of a prick. He very rarely really means it, which becomes quite clear the more you get to know him. He holds no specific grudges that fuel his rebellious behaviour, but often tacks onto Eddie's grudges as his best friend, which can either be his attempt to defend his best friend, back him up, or sometimes reel him in depending on the situation. He is also a shameless flirt.
Relationships: Alex is close to his parents who live in the city, and is an only child. He has his tight circle of friends in Eddie Bishop, Betty Chang and Danny Treborn, with whom he's in a band, 'The Devils Here'. Ale also has a slightly inappropriate crush on Eddie's cousin Elsie, often overtly flirting with her in passing, sometimes coming across as a bit of a creep, but he doesn't push the issue when she rebukes or rebuffs him; he does like like her but he's not deluded about his chances, so it's mostly for fun. If she's honest, she doesn't hate it, however annoying it sometimes is.
Powers & Abilities: Ion has the ability to either negatively or positively charge individuals, human or animal, so long as they're living creatures. A positive charge serves to amplify their natural talents, abilities or powers, while a negative charge does the opposite, hamstringing their talents, abilities or powers. This has to be done in relatively close proximity, the charge being pseudo-electrical and transferred by contact or as a brief spark over very short distances. It can also be applied through conductive materials, such as metals or fluids, but the effects lose some potency through this method.
Weaknesses: Ion's power is entirely supportive, he has no other superhuman powers to defend himself or attack others if in direct conflict. Short of simply hamstringing an opponents ability, he is otherwise an ordinary human in these situations.
Skills: Alex goes to the gym. A lot. He is a very fit individual, with above average strength, durability and stamina, though still in human standards. He has, however, further supplemented his X-Team combat training to improve hs chances in direct conflict, and favours kick-boxing.
Equipment: Ion's X-Team uniform comes with all the usual trinkets and gadgets, including a team communicator.
Background: Alex's father's family moved to America for work when his father was very small, and so his father is quite westernised. He is still Muslim, however. His parents had an arranged marriage, and first met at 18 in Morrocco. They spent 6 months getting to know each other there, living with her parents, and then a further 6 months getting to know each other in America, living with his parents. She already knew English, and was relatively westernised herself, living in a part of Morrocco that had already become somewhat more secular thanks to the influences of tourism. She took to America very well, and when they finally did marry (having become very fond of one another), they stayed in America.
Alex's father was a paralegal when Alex was born, and is now a lawyer. His mother was working as a elementary school teacher at the time, but is now the principal at another elementary school. Alex was raised a Muslim, but also distinctly as an American. He still learned of his heritage and has a strong connection with it, though.
His powers developed young, and he always had pretty good control over them. They didn't really pose much of an issue until kids at school started to try and pressure him into helping them past tests or be better at sports, or to prank a teacher or shopkeeper or whatever. He was relentlessly bullied if he refused, both his religion and heritage, and in fact his mutancy (that which they were so keen to exploit) suddenly becoming the focuses of their cruelty. At this time in his life, Alex was a very small, skinny boy and couldn't do much to defend himself when the bullying became physical. Even his powers could only hamstring their efforts so much.
His parents transferred him to Xavier's school to protect him, and give him the opportunity to learn and grow amidst people and peers that wouldn't ridicule him just for what he was. And he blossomed there. His first day, he met Danny and Betty and they became best friends very quickly. They started a band, even, though not a great one at that time. They got better, but it was the addition of Eddie 3 years later that really made them good as they'd always been missing a good bassist.
His confidence grew in leas and bounds throughout his time at the school, as he became more interested in sports. Not any one sport specifically, and eventually his interests in that area turned to more general fitness and he became a regular gym goer with an intensive, often brutal regime. Around that, his studies and hanging out with his friends, he also still makes time for their band's gigs in the city.
He often gets himself into spots of trouble, being a bit of a rebel, and sometimes a bit of a prick, but he's a good person at heart. When Eddie's cousin Elsie returned to the school after having been away at college, Alex seemed to suddenly notice the change in how mature she'd become, and had also grown up a bit himself too. He's more than a little enamoured by her, but he's not an idiot and is aware of his chances. That doesn't stop him flirting with her, however, often inappropriately. She hated it at first, but eventually, the more she got to know him and trust him as her cousin's best friend, she realised he was just a total doof and started to appreciate the humour and intent behind it, even if he did never have a chance. It's a quirky little back-and-forth they share.
Ion has been a member of a junior X-Team since he was 16, and is close to qualifying for the big leagues.
